Geekly Daily 32 (Friday November 23): No Thanksgiving in Canada
Now playing: Pokemon Lets Go Eevee
Now Watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QujWoP-q9qY
Now Listening: Catching up on podcasts
Now Reading: Old comics (They sucked)
I accidentally spilt a little bit of coke on my surface book's keyborad. It was my new desk, it wasn't even me, the new desk shook and the cupholder just sloshed my drink onto my keyboard. I immediately cleaned it up best I could, but now my ENter button doesn't feel quite right, and it's really bugging me. Ugh! Also my keyboard is making a very strange silent buzzing or cackling sound. It's very disturbing.
So that's my thanksgiving. It's Canada here anyway, so we don't celebrate thanksgiving in November. When we celebrated it, it wasn't freezing cold outside.
I still hear that cackling. I just have to ignore it.
I started nights at my work. It seems pretty simple, I think it's going to be perfect for me. Monday is my first night alone, and it should be fine. The night went by fast.
ANyway, I have work tonight, so I'm gonna play some pokemon then go to work. Gotta admit, I'm loving the new pokemon. It isn't perfect but I've managed to avoic some of the ease of the game by leveling all my pokemon, and always keeping my 6 weakest in my party. So I'm always battling people with my weakest pokemon, which is quite a challenge and balances out some of the over levelling.

- Supergirl *****
I'm sticking with my verdict that this is the best season of this show yet. I mean she fought a mutha-fucking dragon! On main street. For minutes! How did they have the CG budget for that? That was awesome! And Brainiac 5 was so good as well. He had so many awesome moments. I loved his perfect instant cover for secretly investigating the pamphlets, but then that fight scene was something else. Finally, I'm really enjoying Manchester. He's got a lot of charisma, but he's also very broken and brutal, and the show is really not holding back on him torturing people with sharp tools and electricity, or shooting down fleeing thugs in cold blood. I don't know what they are going to do with him yet, because clearly we're not supposed to think what he's doing is good, but damn is the actor fantastic. - Doctor Who *****
Awesome episode of Doctor Who. Legitimately good, well written, intense. classic who feel. fun setting and plot, enjoyable characters played by good actors. Did I mention well written? I made an excuse for this show at the beginning of the season, that it always has charm but it's not always well written. Well we've had some serious actually well scripted hours of television this season, and this is another one. I didn't see the twist coming for who the villain is. I didn't mind the bubble wrap reveal though. I made a joke about never popping bubble wrap again, like how Blink is supposed to make you look at angel statues differently, or you never go in the ocean after watching Jaws. But then the final moment of the episode made me think that was what they were going for as well, which would be the laziest attempt at that ever, considering the reveal wasn't until the final 8 minutes, and it wasn't really used as horror at all. There was really just the one time with Kira where it mattered at all. But okay, as I said, laziest attempt at that sort of "meme" thing I've ever seen, but I don't think that distracts from an otherwise fantastic episode. And the true villain was another great metaphor to our current political climate, a working man feeling like he's being replaced, and the Doctor arguing that the system isn't always broken, sometimes it's the people abusing the system, taking advantage of it. The old man's line "I think the only part of the system that's broken here is you." So good. - Arrow *****
Great week of television, especially if you're a geek like I am. I loved the Laurel-centric storyline, as she learned what it means to be a hero, standing up for whats right even if it's not for a reward. Even when you're hated for it. You do what's right anyway. It was nice having Anitole around again. I don't understand any of DIaz's choices, but better he let Anitole live than be a smart villain and kill the poor Russian. I thought Felicity was compelling, if a little morally ambiguous, and the end was a needed relief. maybe Oliver will finally get free. But that twist. I hated that weasel. I was hoping he'd die, but being evil works too. - The Flash ****1/2
A good episode this week. I'm getting a little tired of Cecile coming on so strong. I get that she wants to be relevant, and she's allowed, but she doesn't have to put it on so thick. "I can be intimidating!" It almost seems like the actress thinks she's in a kid's show or something. It's overacting to the extreme, and it drives me crazy. I know part of her role this season was to hide that Joe West has back issues, and is hopefully seeking treatment. But I'd welcome her with open arms on the team if she wasn't so annoying. I do love Nora though, and her enthusiasm for her mother is delicious. I love Sherloque too. As always Tom Cavanagh is a national treasure, and a highlight of the show. Even though his character has had no reason to exist for seasons now, the fact they keep finding ways to bring him back anyway is most appreciated by me. - Legends of Tomorrow ****1/2 Fun episode this week, and not really trying to be much more. I have to admit that the thread they used to connect Mick with the filmmaking with Japan around the time of Godzilla was thin at best. I actually read a review saying as such and I disagreed until just now when I thought about it. It did throw me a bit, but everything worked out at the end when his warrior woman with three boobs came to life and they made out over the spoils of her victory. Also I enjoyed seeing Ava Sharpe in civilian clothes. She rocked that sweater!
- Family Guy **** Funny episode, but it didn't set my hair on fire. I liked a bunch of the Meg jokes, and the references were really on point. Okay maybe my hair smouldered a little. I loved all the deep cuts, that were perfectly aimed for my age group. That GoldenEye scene at the end was priceless.
- Black Lightning ****
Good episode of Black Lightning this week, largely content to just spin the wheels it already had in motion. From the producers that brought you "Surprise Gambi's dead!" comes "Surprise, Gambi's alive" and beyond that Anissa's plot helping the gang family was interesting. It quickly grew to be an A plot, but sorta seemed to come out of nowhere, and now fuels the cliffhanger. I'm also starting to warm up to Khaleel, and his relationship with Jenn. And seeing the mom grieve uncontrollably was heartbreaking. - The Walking Dead ****Good episode of walking dead. A little slow, and no bad ass Judith, but I love what they're setting up. I cant wait for the whisperers. And it was nice to see Jesus again, and see him getting along with Aaron, and training him. Michonne needs to chill out, but other than that, next week is looking like it could be the best episode of the season. Maybe five stars?
- Star Wars Resistance ****
That was a fun, intense episode of Resistance. I really enjoyed it, and the action, and the character dynamics. I liked getting more time with the engineer, and I liked the way she sort of idolized Sinara. Everytime I hear the name Sinara, though, I think of Agents of SHIELD. And are we not allowed to shoot people in this show. Cause there were multiple times the leader dude could have just saved the main character with a well placed shot, there were so many chances he could have shot the pirates blatantly trying to kill them, and instead they were shooting the guns out of their hand, or dropping the gun to fight them hand to hand. Is there a rule in this cartoon that engineers like them need to have some moral stance about killing murderous pirates? Unbelievable. - Saturday Night Live ***
A very average episode of the show. Not as bad as some episodes this season, but very far from the kind of episodes that make me laugh and laugh until I cried. There were things to chuckle to, but it was still largely uncomfortable barely comedy. Not the best season of this show so far, not by a long shot. - The Rookie **I was really close to dropping this one. I did say after the pilot that I would drop the show if they ever broke up Nathan Fillion and the girl from Dark Matter. Well they did, and my time was limited. But the storytelling drew me in and I held on for the episode. Barely. We'll see about last week.

Geekly Daily 31 (Wednesday, November 21):Writing binge done
Now playing: Star Wars Battlefront 2
Now Watching: DVR
Now Listening: N/A
Now Reading: Marvel Mystery Comics 4 1940
Well I finished writing my chapter for the month. 1x02 of Dakotah Slade. It's pretty good, but it's not very long, so my apologies to my one subscriber for that. I'm still building up the support cast, but it's well paced and I think it will be received well. Also you can expect characters from Dakotah slade to crossover with the next chapter of Urban Fantasy, and then Urban Fantasy will crossover next time on Dakotah Slade, and then there will likely be one more crossover back onto Urban Fantasy. It wont be a main storyline, but a small trade of characters as forces are combined to tackle minor subplots. So you can all look forward to that, especially since the new plan is that it will all be freely offered here. Though the archive of old chapters will only be accessed by my patreon subscribers. Remember it's only a dollar a month, and the PDFs are much easier to read than this site. that's patreon.com/99geek
I spent way too much time trying to set up my PS3 today with my Elgato capture device. Turns out it's impossible. Yeah. PS3 has an ancient sort of protection (Like magic) that keeps you from capturing off the HDMI for some damn reason. So I just can't do it. I tried everything, spent way too long on it, and nothing worked. I primarily bought the thing for my Switch, but I did so hoping to also use it for my PS3, so I could stream older games from last generation. The first game I was gonna stream was Hitman 2 (the old one) but there went my plans for that. I wasn't gonna start it till I was done Spider man anyway, but I probably could have spent all those hours playing that instead of trying to set this up and failing. If only I could turn back time.
After that I just chilled out and played some Battlefront 2. Tried and failed to join a party for some rainbow (But got them a fifth anyway, so they were good) then went back to battlefront, and finally played a round of Overwatch and got my ass handed to me. As was usually the case with that game. Tomorrow I'll play some Spider-man, promise. If you guys wanna request something, just do it. I'm here to communicate, but no one communicates with me :( What chapter would you like to see next month? What games should I play? What is your favourite color? Tell me all!

Geekly Daily 30 (Monday November 19): November Writing Binge Day 1
Now playing: Nothing
Now Watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bm70SUnOIgI
Now Listening:Ashes by Celine Dion
Now Reading: Dakotah Slade
Not much to say today. Spent all day planning out the next chapter for this month. I'm in the middle of a writing binge, so that's where all my focus is. I have a few extra days off this week because my job has been, well rough, so I'm using that time to get the chapter done, which I'm behind on. I wont be by Thursday. I'm also thinking I might just release the whole chapter this time, and for the forseeable future. I don't think my one subscriber will mind. He's not exactly being very active anyway, and I just want my work to have more of an audience. Of course it wont be well formated in nice PDF format like subscribers get, nor will they have access to the archive of chapters like my subscribers will be. But at least when I put all this work into a chapter each month, people will be able to appreciate it, maybe.
ANyway, after a bunch of planning, and stuff, I watched some Arrow, did a couple chores so I don't get behidn like I often do during Binges, and I'm going to sleep. Sure I didn't get to Legends, Last Week, or Walking Dead, but that's not so bad I'll be fine. Good night everyone, tomorrow, I'm gonna write a whole chapter. I mean probably not, I'll likely need Wednesday too, but if I finish on tuesday, I can chill Wednesday, so fingers crossed. May I be blessed by the writing gods with much creativity.

Geekly Daily 29 (Sunday November 18): Comics and Video Games aren't just for kids!
Now playing: Pokemon Lets Go Eevee
Now Watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH7VPbgLAwc
Now Listening: Podcasts
Now Reading: Been reading articles on Pokemon, Hitman, and Fallout 76
When I published the weekly yesterday, I hadn't yet heard about Bill Maher. In fact I passed out half the way through his show, and published his spot on the talkshow showdown without seeing the end, or knowing all the details. Having barely paid any attention at all, I'd been so tired by that point. I missed the blog post he made after the show criticizing fans of Stan Lee. He sounded like Greg, the horrible manager that tried to fire me. Said Star Wars and TV stuff were all for kids, and not adults. Bill Maher took his stance, and really ran with it, saying that comic book and Stan Lee fans are to blame for Trump getting elected! I swear to god! Like how can he be so wrong, ignorant, and fucked in the head as to attack his own liberal platform. He sounds just like the ignorant conservatives he fights against. And I went back to watcht he second half of his show, and fuck him, he goes on about how we need to talk less about politics, and talk more about frivoulous things like baking bread and morning dew (Pulled from a book of 14000 things to be "happy" about). So we should talk about dumb frivolous things because politics divides the country, but if we talk about comic books we're dumb and frivolous and childish and we elected donald trump even though we are all liberal and comics are regularly attacked for getting too political, for being too SJW, for dealing too much with hard mature topics.
I don't believe that necessarily, that it's gone too far. But I think any story can be immature or very mature, and it doesn't matter the medium (Novel, TV, comic, Video Game) or even genre (Non-fiction, romance, sci-fi, fantasy). A good story is a good story, and if you can't tell that Moulin Rouge is a good movie because you wont give it a chance cause you hate musicals... well that means you're ignorant. Now if you can watch moulin rouge and say "I can see how this is well made, and a great musical, but I'm not a fan of musicals and I didn't get much out of this" that's another thing entirely. Going around saying "Moulin Rouge is the worst movie, cause fuck musicals." then that's bad. See the difference? Judge things for what they are, dont just trust your prejudgements of things. It only makes an ass of you AND me.
I think I finally have my life on track. For now anyway. Tomorrow I'm gonna try to write the next chapter of my book. Fingers crossed it goes well. I still haven't touched it for the month yet, and next weekend is the last weekend of the month.

- ➤ Supergirl ***** I'm sticking with my verdict that this is the best season of this show yet.
- ➤Doctor Who ***** Awesome episode of Doctor Who.
- ➤ Star Wars Resistance ****That was a fun, intense episode of Resistance.
- ➤ Saturday Night Live ***A very average episode of the show. Not as bad as some episodes this season, but very far from the kind of episodes that make me laugh and laugh until I cried. There were things to chuckle to, but it was still largely uncomfortable barely comedy. Not the best season of this show so far, not by a long shot.
