Geekly Weekly 23 (Saturday, February 9th): I'm not makin' Valentine's Day

Now playing: Aldonn Chronicles

▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁

I've just been working on my writing. Thankfully there hasn't been much on tv. I've got some colbert's and things piling up but i'm caught up on all scripted shows.

And by working on my writing I mean prepping for the new chapter. My hope was that it wouldn't take this long, I planned to finish it Friday then I'd be writing all day today and tomorrow, but I messed that up, and slept far too much. Literally just slept my whole Saturday away. It seems there is now no hope of me making my Valentine's day deadline, which is too bad, because hitting those holidays is always a good chance to entice new readers, but there's just no hope of that now short of me calling in for work and I can't do that. My job means too much to me, and so does the money. Even though it's just a minimum wage BS job that has been treating me like crap, I don't have the option of choice. I live pay cheque to pay cheque. Every hour counts. I just have to take the loss and release the chapter late. And thankfully this is the first month I'm tackling the chapter early, so being late will be more like just releasing it on time.

As an apology I'll be posting the other chapters throughout the month and lead up to the new chapter, so you can look forward to that. I think Aldonn Chronicles is one I haven't posted in it's entirety here yet, but I could be wrong. I should check that first. Also I finally finished A Suburban Fantasy the audiobook podcast. You can find the podcast where most podcasts are found. Apple or Spotify. Maybe other places, I'm not quite sure all the places, but those are two for sure ones. Just look up 99% Geek. We'll be starting into season one act one of 99% geek next. I know I've sort of thrown my paywall out the window for my patreon. I hope my patrons don't mind, I'm just trying to cast a net for as big an audience as I can find.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Geekly Weekly TV Rankings ( for new):
  1. Deadly Class *****I freaking love this show. I can't help it. It's so up my alley, even though it's about shitty people. I'm just so crushing on both Petra and Saya. Even though Petra keeps going to Vikter for some reason! Ugh! I hate it. But I can't just dock stars for that. Everything with Saya was pretty amazing. I love her devotion to her sword, and I thought it was so adorable when they held hands at the end. I enjoyed this show just, maybe, too much. I really thought eventually this show would get down to business and I'd stop liking it, but it seems the insanity is just gonna continue forever. Man, that dance scene at the beginning, and then to see him dominated on a leash at the end. So the show is pretty great, but that coupled with my definitely weird crushes on Petra and Saya at the same time (It makes watching the show really...confusing) this show was the best hour of my week.
  2. GenLOCK *****
1x02:This new show from Rooster Teeth is really good. So turns out Michael B Jordan has a really good reason for leaving Dakotah Fanning thinking he's dead for 4 years. He's literally just parts floating in a tank and then he projects his mind into holograms and giant robots. Which, is totally stealing one of my future ideas for Adrift, but that's beside the point. Maisie Williams was finally introduced, and her scottish accent is awesome. This show is just great. I have no complaints.
1x03: This show is so good! I can't get over how quality this show is. I just had a grin on my face like from beginning to end, but especially when Maisie Williams GenLocked with her mech for the first time. Also everything with Dakotah Fanning. I can't believe she moved on with someone else! When she, and her new boyfriend, had to run drills with the team, and then her Ex stepped up, I was really hoping he'd make short work of the other two, and then somehow she'd be better, or maybe just know him better, and would catch him or hold the line for just an extra moment or something. But there was nothing like that. Frankly I just want her to have her own crazy ninja mech thing. I think she's deserved it, having to think her ex was dead for 4 years. Even if she did move on.
  3. I am the Night *****
It was another good episode. I'm still hooked on this show. Great acting, great directing, I have no idea where it's going, check it out.
  4. Hanna *****
Great pilot. Really well directed. The cinematography was top notch. I was surprised it was directed by a woman, not because I didn't think a woman could direct something so quality, but because it was SO good, visually, that I thought they might have brought a name in for the first episode. Stunt director. But no, it's a woman I haven't heard of, and she knocked it out of the park. I hope she gets more work after this, she deserves it. Hanna was awesome, the acting is superb. The scene where she tastes her own period blood is a little bizarre. The little relationship she has with the polish boy is kinda cute though. I'm hooked. Though I'll be less hooked when they release the rest of the season in one chunk. It'll go on my to-watch list and I haven't even gotten to Punisher S2 yet. I wish they would release these shows one episode at a time. My life is crazy enough as it is.
  5. Arrow ****1/2
When the episode started, and it was all a documentary, I was super disappointed. Especially with no Supergirl on Sunday, I was jonesing for just a normal superhero story. And the documentary angle got old fast. But then thankfully they DID drop it, and it was those moments that really shown. Including a scene between Will and Zoe which was adorable. I called that. I've been shipping them for a bit now, and finally it's happening. And it's cute. Mine that for gold Arrow writers! Don't abandon it like you always do with those kids! I like that he was expelled. Too bad there was literally zero more time for him after that bombshell. Also... more young Zoe please.
  6. High Maintenance ****1/2
Another great episode of the show. The storylines this week were a little harder to get behind than others. I hated the woman in part 2. She was horrible. But then it all kind of paid off when she went on that drug trip, wakes up the next morning, looks at the sunrise and is just like "CHEMTRAILS!" The kid in part 1 was adorable.
  7. The Walking Dead ****1/2Good episode of the show. To all the people who want it to die, shut up and go find something else to troll about. Because some of us still like this show. Has it had ups and downs? Sure, all shows have. But I come back for the world, and they are far from losing me. I'm glad it was renewed for season 10. I hope it keeps going strong. I really loved Judith. Just everything with her is amazing. She's so cool. "Language! I'm just a kid, Asshole!" so good. I like her, I like Neegan and her. I like all of it. Tara seems to have taken to leadership without even so much as a hesitation. She's just like "Oh Jesus is dead? Huh, guess I'm the leader now then." Shrug. I dunno how cool I am with how cavalier she's being. Is she okay? I feel like she's too cold. She's shut herself off, and that can't be good. Also Rosita... jesus Rosita. Turns out she's been slutting it up over the time jump. Not just Gabriel, but apparently the doctor too! And she moved on from Doctor guy to Gabriel so fast that she's pregnant with doctor guy's baby and still not showing it. That means like a month and a half if that. Especially considering she's having morning sickness. That's like a 6 week thing, isn't it? And she was like serious with Gabriel, so what the fuck? Meanwhile I've been shipping her with Eugene this whole time, and she seems to care about him so much. But I've had that. I've had the most amazing women really care about me... but refuse for it to be any more than a friend, while I watched her bounce from one crappy guy to another who never got her. I guess it's a story old as time, but for guys like us (Me and Eugene) it's a never-ending story.
  8. The Flash ****1/2
Great episode this week! Hilarious. I especially lost it at all of Sherloque's wives, and all the great Sherloque comedy. I do hope he didn't really let Nora fool him. Like he should have had his eye on the ball. I was really hoping XS' plans would backfire. As for the main story, though I didn't care about it as much as Sherloque and his wackiness, I did enjoy Ralph and Barry losing their powers and needing to laser tag their way to victory. There was a good dynamic between them. This episode just worked. Also, I was screaming at Iris the whole time she was breaking in to Cicada's house, and he got home, and then she didn't leave when I thought she left! And then she interviewed him! I thought she was being so reckless and stupid, but turns out I was wrong, she kicked his ass. That N----a ain't taken no shit. So mad props, I guess. Iris MVP. Especially with Nora being all shady and yuck.
  9. Black Lightning ****
This was a really good episode of the show. I saw people commenting that this was the episode that finally made them like the show. The fight scene was awesome, between Anissa and those gang members. It was also fun seeing Jenn's protest against the principal, and Jefferson pick up her fight after she was escorted out by the guards. That talk between Jeff and the principal was so hilarious. "Good Talk" was the perfect response. Even the stuff with the mad scientist women has funny moments. Well written. Good episode.
  10. Les Miserables ****
Good episode, the barricade stuff was strange and subtle at points, but over the top at others. And I've never really understood why Jean ValJean dies at the end? I flat out laughed when Cozette was like "Your hands are cold" "That is because I am going to die soon" What? Why? From what? You were fine six weeks ago when she left on her honeymoon. Hahahaha, I just realized why the honeymoon was so long. It probably took like 3 weeks just to get to the place, and then they got out, was like "This is fun" spend the day, then jump back in the carriage for the three week trip back. Anyway, so a somewhat weaker finale to an otherwise fantastic series. Oh and Javert's wrap up was pretty good.
  11. Star Trek Discovery ****A lot of people have been raving about how good Star Trek Discovery is this season, but I'll be honest, I liked last season better. Personally I think this season feels like a step down. And this was probably the best episode so far, but it still just doesn't feel the same. Season 1 felt like something special they're failing to recreate for me, and sometimes I wonder if I would be watch this show at all if it wasn't called Star Trek. I don't care about this stupid mystery, I don't care about this fake spock we're chasing down who isn't Nimoy or Quinto and apparently has a beard. I don't care about Michael's family drama. Her mother's turn for the sake of a cliffhanger ending a couple episodes back was just dumb. But this week's contained story was interesting enough. Some kind of advanced sentient celestial being, trying to contact them and share it's knowledge before it dies. Which apparently includes a history of the past on hundred thousand years before recorded history. But we'll never hear anything about that ever again. It was interesting, but only mildly.
  12. Star Wars Resistance ****
Great episode of Star Wars Resistance. I liked Kaz doing everything he can to help Sinara even though she's a pirate and a spy. It was kind of adorable, the chemistry between them, and I kept hoping they would kiss. Repeatedly there'd be this lingering look between them, they'd close the distance, and then nothing. That was probably on purpose, and to be frank I prefer the other girl. THe pilot. She's more immature, but... nope guess that's it. I just like when women act more like children. .....I'M KIDDING! God. Stop calling the FBI. ANyway, I like em both, and maybe they can just drop Kaz from the equation and lesbo threesome with the engineer? I should censor myself more, my one fan hates it when I make things sexual.
  13. The Big Bang Theory ***1/2
12x04: Like Brooklyn Nine Nine above, it was a fine episode with plenty of funny moments, but nothing too memorable. Stewart might had some of the best scenes with his adorable new girlfriend. Aww, they're going to repopulate the earth together. I am excited about the promo for Lenard abstaining from sex with Penny for some reason. Can't wait to find out why that is. That could be fun.
12x05: Hilarious episode of Big Bang Theory this week. I enjoyed Penny trying to seduce Lenard, I ship those two. They're cute together. Her father, and Raj's exgirlfriend were the only to out of place aspects of this. Also I don't see why both Howard and Bernadette couldn't go up. As the instructor said, it was actually safer than driving. That's enough for me. Why waste the ticket on an illogical fear. But I'm weird like that I guess. Still, I laughed at a lot, like when Amy asked Lenard why he was avoiding having sex with Penny and Sheldon thought she was talking to him. I also liked the revelation that Penny might be changing her mind about kids. For people thinking that makes her week, I think she was just scared, and she needed something like this to let her see past that fear into what a future like that might not be so bad. I  imagine she'd be most afraid of whats going to happen to her and her body, that would be my fear I think, but thankfully I'm not a woman so I don't have to feel like that. But for all you guys out there, can you imagine. Forcing a baby out your dick? I'd have second thoughts too.
  14. The Goldbergs ****
Fun episode of the show that focuses on more of the aspects I care about. Erika and Geoff take center stage with their relationship, and those two are easily my favourite characters. I'm happy the show didn't break them up. ALso the mother dind't have too many annoying moments. I find she's best used when she's not overused. She can grate on me sometimes. And Adam was doing what he does best, be a nerd being put in non-nerd situations. All around decent episode.
  15. Brooklyn Nine Nine ***1/2
6x04: It was a fine episode, I've just never really cared much for Gina at all. In fact I've always found her annoying. There were funny parts for sure, I think my favourite Gina moment goes to...the first one. The chess was alright. I got more and more bored as it went on. And trying to get Amy to burn her book was just mean. Poor Ames.
6x05: This episode was fun at points, and not great at others, but it was more enjoyable than last episode. I like Doug, I do. But his schtick has been getting old, and though this time it turned out he really was clean, we still spent the whole episodes rehashing the classic did he didn't he I don't know schtick that I'm tired of. And now there a new version of him. I like his friendship with Peralta. I do. I'd love to see him go to school and ebcome a rookie cop and join Peralta's department and then they could have adventures that didn't bore me to tears. Also the B plot about their bar was terrible. Who cares about the bar. On top of that, drinking is terrible and bad for you, and drinking till you puke is horrible. I really wish we didn't glorify alcohol like this. And Holt chugging wine wasn't very funny either. It was a meh episode. But still better than the last.
  16. Gotham ***
This is a week of mediocre episodes. WHich sucks that I've had to watch them one after another after another. I never even did a write up for this one, ah well.
  17. Riverdale ***
1x11: A slow rolling investigation into who killed Hiram Lodge. It was clear they were going for a noir detective tale with Jughead, and for the most part it worked, but at the same time it worked at boring me to tears. But I have watched way too many shows this weekend. Peak TV is too much right now!
1x12: A better second episode, but maybe that's just because there was such a focus on relationships. As we all know, now, I'm a huge suck, hopeless romantic, and I have a strange fixation on teenage relationships, perhaps to fill a void in my heart of the crazy teenage relationship I was never allowed to have. I loved it all though. I loved Cheryl, a lot. Especially how she chose to tackle her girlfriends problems one at a time with brutal efficiency. The montage near the end where everyone is getting phone calls from their parents while they're all happening to be having sex at the same time. Also I liked Archie and Josie. I thought this was like "Again?" but no, that was her back up singer. Finally, JellyBean is back! Hooray! Cause as we know, I also have a strange fixation with smart-mouthed children likely to fill the void of always wanting to raise an awesome kid like that myself, but again was never allowed to have :( I bet I'd make an amazing dad. And my daughter would be just as cool as Jelly Bean.
  18. The Orville ***A strange slow episode all about Issac and the Doctor getting involved and having robot sex. And no, none of it was played for comedy, as per usual. With my current mood, it was hard for me to stay awake, but it was mildly charming at points, and Issac was a total dick when he slept with her and was like "Well, I'm done."
