Geekly Weekly 24 (Sunday, February 17th): Beat my head against a keyboard till a chapter came out.

Now playing: The Aldonn Chronicles

▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁

I finally finished writing my chapter for this month. It was hard, took a lot out of me. I don't think it's going to be my best chapter, I really struggled with it. Spent a lot of time banging my head against the keyboard, which wasn't all that pleasant. At least I hope it's servicable. But only weeks will tell, as I still have to edit it. It might be like last month, where I end up waiting to the very last moment. SO my apologies in advance on that one.

Now I have a bunch of catching up to do with my life, and my work starts up again in like 3 hours :( If only I could write for a living, make enough money of this to live. I know my writing would be better for it, and I'd be able to write more than one chapter a month. But much like Star Trek Discovery below, life sucks.

Geekly Weekly TV Rankings ( for new)(PS: There will be Spoilers):
  1. ➤ Deadly Class *****This episode was amazing. Possibly one of the best episodes of any show this year so far. It was so good. The main characters take acid, and what follows is an hour of some of the best television ever made. It's like a short pink floyd movie, going so far as to break into scenes of animation. It is so trippy and mind bendy, everyone needs to watch this show. This is now liek the third time I've gone into the show expecting its premise to turn me off, only to find myself only ever more turned on by its diverse charismatic characters and cast, and it's super strong individual episode stories. I don't need to be sold on the show when each episode does such a great job of selling me on their individual plot. Keep it coming.
  2. ➤ Doom Patrol *****Awesome new show. Amazing cast. I was waiting and waiting to see who Alan Tudyk was, after he was narrating the whole episode, and boy was it worth the wait. The special effects in this show were amazing. In fact, they were some of the best visual effects I've seen on television. Perhaps more amazing by the variety of things their VFX team were asked to accomplish. This show looked good enough to be a movie, hands down.
  3. The Flash *****I loved this episode of The Flash. I had so much fun watching it. And I was tired going into it. But it woke me up, and I enjoyed Nora's wild ride replaying the same hour over and over again trying to save all her friends.
  4. High Maintenance *****
Great show. Last week wasn't quite as strong as some, but I loved this week's episode. We explored the set of a TV show, and it was great fun watching all the different pieces not quite turn so synchronously. Watch everything just slowly fall apart while everyone tries to desperately hold on to their little corner. Fascinating. Also I sympathize for the main guy's new girlfriend. Losing a baby is rough. Finally I watched something worthy of 5 stars this week, I watched everything else today first.
  5. genLOCK ****1/2
Great episode of the show. The beginning was a little slow to start, and I thought we had another 4 star episode on our hands like everything below, but the ending was intense as fuck. They introduced the enemy, and the enemy ripped Maisie's head off. It was intense as fuck, and her scream was chilling.
  6. I am the Night ****1/2
Another amazing episode. I wasn't expecting the Satan twist, leaving me wonder if the main character might be the antichrist or something? It was fascinating though, and fun, watching her stubbornly continue her investigation despite all the unscrupulous sorts orbiting around her.
  7. Arrow ****It was a good arrow this week, and for once the future stuff wasn't totally boring. I like this Mia Smoak. And that fight scene was the best of the episode. I found the biggest let down was Stanley. Other people seemed to love this ep, but A) I knew it was Stanley from the very beginning and B) that took away from how creepy some of those creepy scenes were and C) I feel like there's no way he should be able to accomplish as much as he does, but then again, there was no way Oliver could have raised that bottle to knock Stanley out.
  8. ➤ Brooklyn 99 ****Hilarious episode of Brooklyn 99, and probably the one this season so far that most feels like how the show felt in older seasons. Most every show feels certain growing pains when it changes networks, but this show has probably stayed the most consistent. If there's any change that I've noticed, the show has taken things even more off the wall and deviated more from the cop drama. Perhaps that's why this episode focusing on Jake and Rosa solving a murder in a locked room felt like such a breath of fresh air this season. Possibly their best episode yet this season.
  9. Black Lightning ****
Another good episode of the show, continuing it's trend. Not perfect. I understand Jefferson feeling guilt for what happened at Freeland High, but leaving that monster appointed as principal is the bullshit. Also Tobias' relationship with his assistant has turned weird and creepy and gross. Oh and Anissa learned this week that everything she ever knew about her girlfriend is wrong, even her name is fake, she some sort of ex-child sex slave and man this escalated quickly. I love that Anissa thought everything was so good right up until the final moments of the last episode. "Why are you running away from me? Are we still gonna see a movie later?"
  10.  Family Guy ****
I didn't want to give all four of these shows 4 stars. I certainly didn't want to have to rank between them (Family Guy, Shameless, SNL, and Star Wars). That's the order I landed on. These episodes were all strong episodes, especially for shows that have felt a little weak or stagnant lately. That said, none of them were flawless of genius. Family Guy was hilarious, but not every joke landed. Also I might have been really stoned and found it funnier than it actually was. I did like Brian having sex with himself. And I got a kick in the end when his robot escaped to the pier to get one assumes gangbanged by sailor men, and Stewie's phone notifications play beautiful music.
  11. Shameless ****
Good episode of Shameless. Not great, but really funny and fun. It felt great seeing Fiona try to turn a corner... and then the owner came and fired her and now she's heading to prison, and ugh! Not cool. But I continue to love Lip's storyline. Xan came back! I love when he's trying to help others. He's so empathic. Such a nice guy. And as someone who craves to be a father, I really ship his father daughter vibe with Xan. I'm also cool with the girlfriend sticking around if she wants to. She was nice this episode. And Debbie is really stepping up. Kevin and Vee never stop being perfect. And Carl's girlfriend is taking a liking to Debbie? Count me in.
  12. Saturday Night Live ****
I'm actually a little shocked and surprised. After all the complaining I've been doing, I think this was easily the best episode of the season so far. Halsey was amazing. Both her performances were mesmerizing, and as usual I fell madly in love with her. The way she drew that on stage was so cool. I'm in awe. But on top of the guest, who had a weak monologue and wasn't necessarily why the episode was the best, despite how much I appreciate the energy she brought, almost every sketch was surprisingly strong. I was laughing hard, even at rehashes of sketches I didn't really like. The bad sketches were all seemingly saved with a funny twist, or whatever. I'm really impressed. I wish more of the season had been like this episode, and I hope there's more episodes like this to come. I'm sure it was probably hard, but they did an amazing job. I'm so proud of all of them. Also the episode had more Villasenor. That's an instant win. This was really firing on all cylinders, in a way I haven't seen all season. I think the worst sketch was the one where Kyle Mooney interrupted Black History month, and that still had me chuckling once of twice. Them Trumps was not funny at all until "We're being pulled over" "Yup, I saw that coming." and then it was hilarious.
44x13: It was an alright episode. Not as good as last week. I didn't care for the musical guest, but there were some legitimately funny sketches that had me laughing. And some not so funny ones that had me shaking my head. It was an episode filled with hits and misses.
  13. Star Wars Resistance ****
Yup, another four star. 4 strong episodes, that are so just shy of great that picking which is better than the other is really hard.I enjoyed all the crazy hijinx with the stormtrooper armor. I almost forgot that troopers were programmed, something I should have known from Finn in the movie. For the most part I enjoyed them tryign to out run the first order, and trying to convince their one friend she's wrong about them. It's sorta like arguing with a conservative. how prescient.
  14. ➤ Star Trek Discovery ***I almost called it Star Wars Discovery, an innocent mistake but one plenty of people would agree with after season one. Those same people seem convinced that season 2 is an improvement, but in my opinion every time the show appeases those kinds of people, it only turns me off even more. Bringing the doctor back with mushroom magic was a new low. It felt so ridiculous. Made absolutely no sense, like the rest of the spore network universe. There was a moment where it seemed the show was going to say the doctor had to die anyway, and that seemed like the real brave and risky and impactful story they could have told. But they dropped it and made up some deus ex machina. Now he's back. This season sucks. And I still don't care about Spock, but thankfully yet again they didn't even bother touching on it barely. It was a meh episode of what has been a poor season.
  15. The Gifted **
God damn this show is bad. If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times, this show has a great cast, great characters, great setting, and it has no idea how to use any of them. I can't believe they killed Blink.
